'Avengers: Endgame' Review

There is no denying that the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be the highest grossing opening weekend for a film of all time. Early projections predict that the film will potentially gross over $1 Billion by the end of this weekend.

Avengers: Endgame is the final lap and a swan song for the millions of fans that have been enraptured by the film adaptions of the Marvel comics for the past decade and we see the fans’ appreciation and devotion to their favorite heroes in the Marvel Universe as it is reflected in the projection of the storyline in Endgame.

After the gut-wrenching conclusion to Avengers: Infinity War, fans have spent the past year speculating how our beloved heroes will fight back to resolve the apocalyptic devastation caused by Thanos.

But I am not going to be giving away ANY spoilers here! If you want to find out the conclusion to Endgame, you’ll have to see it in theaters yourself and be quick about it because in this world of social media, many fans have already felt the demise of being spoiled by the film’s plot line and intense conclusion.

I am not the first person to jump in line to see an action movie. I enjoy the theater experience but as the film rolls on to the 120 minute mark, I tend to get lost in all the special effects, the ironic dialogue, and the lengthy fight sequences. That all changed after I saw Black Panther which I consider to be one of the best films of 2018. And my head is still spinning from the phenomenal Captain Marvel released last March which is right up there with Black Panther as my favorite Marvel film.

So when I went with my fiancé on opening night to see Avengers: Endgame, we both knew we were in for what I now consider to be the most intense and thrilling movie watching experience ever.

Without giving away key elements to the storyline, Endgame starts from where we left off in Infinity War as the original Avengers: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, and Bruce Banner must try to find a way to bring back their vanquished allies and fight Thanos who now has control over the universe.

Those are the cliff notes of Endgame but there is so much more to be seen in this three-hour action packed film (Yes, three hours... go to the bathroom before it starts, you’ll be glad you did!)

As The Avengers prepare for the epic showdown against Thanos, the creators of Endgame come up with what I consider to be a completely unexpected yet thrilling format that ties everything that has happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. While the beginning of Endgame is quite gloomy and we see our favorite action heroes wallow in their defeat, the premise of the film builds up to the most extremely intense conclusion of all the Marvel films.

What I enjoyed most about Avengers: Endgame was... the audience! It was incredible to see people so involved in specific moments of the film. The reactions that came out of people in the theater when certain characters would come up on screen or when an unexpected turn (there are many) happened was bittersweet because unlike any other Marvel film released for the past decade, Avengers: Endgame is both a final goodbye and a new beginning for these fans who have loved these characters for so many years. Toward the end of the film, I found myself yelling at the screen, feeling emotionally invested in what was happening in front of me.

Just the movie watching experience alone, I give Avengers: Endgame a 10/10. But if I base my critique off the execution of Endgame as it brings an epic conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it still receives a 10/10 from me. No doubt whatsoever. It is nearly impossible to put together a three hour film and keep a moviegoer interested from beginning to end, but Avengers: Endgame does it right!

Needless to say, I thought my bladder was going to explode by the end of the film and yet I enjoyed every minute of it! If you have been a follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and have not yet seen Avengers: Endgame, take my advice... Go to your nearest movie theatre and SEE. IT. NOW.
